The Dean’s Message
In the name of Allah the Beneficent and the Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, and may blessings and peace be upon His faithful Messenger.
The dynamic and visionary leaders of this generous country are aware of the importance of education in its various forms and its fundamental role in the progress of human beings. It not only develops their abilities to communicate with other people, but also enables them to acquire scientific knowledge, and disseminate and develop their intellectual potential and prospect, empowering them to contribute in the various development programs and strategies. As language is a significant tool that helps in the achievement of scientific knowledge and intellectual skills, the teaching and learning of it is vital to attain them and realize their obvious relevance. On the other hand, in the present era of globalization and digital revolution language acts as a fundamental prerequisite to developing everything that serves sustainable development, and achieving cultural cohesion and constructive communication between the people of this country and the peoples of the world.
Accordingly, King Saud University has founded, and devoted itself to sustaining and supporting a college specialized in languages and translation, based on theoretical and scientific principles, for more than three decades. Consequently, we at the College of Languages and Translation with its different departments, have rightfully taken up the responsibility of building a bridge that aims to connect the dissemination of knowledge with the various global scientific and intellectual demands, in order to contribute effectively to human knowledge. For this reason, the College of Languages and Translation acts out as a window through which King Saud University looks out to the world’s languages and cultures. It serves, in fact, as a true channel for the Kingdom to communicate and negotiate with the whole world based on its political, economic and religious positions.
From this standpoint, the College is currently moving towards activating its role in enlightened communication and in providing programs for teaching foreign languages and translation, which support the vision of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, in achieving a comprehensive scientific renaissance in the Kingdom, where translation stands out as an essential component. The College of Languages and Translation is also striving for continuous development in line with the new strategy approved by the university.
